The New Corn Palace is a famous attraction in Mitchell, SD. Originally built to house the annual community harvest festival, the new ornate building opened in 1921 and became a premier venue for area symphonies and concert bands. Fort Dodge (IA) Band rang in the inaugural celebration, under the direction of Karl King, who composed this work for the occasion.

In keeping with King's circus march tradition, a bold D minor introduction and first strain leads to a contrasting F major second strain, lyrical trio, and minor key break strain.
This new edition condenses the five original trumpet parts into three parts, and re-scores the saxophones to meet modern standards, with additional percussion editing.
